Back to School Immunization Information

REQUIREMENTS FOR 2007-2008
K-10th grade students should bring proof of all of their vaccines-including Varicella and Hepatitis B vaccines or immunity- to school now.
Students not up to date on immunizations by September 14 will be excluded from school.

There are multiple ways to get immunized!

  • Contact your primary health care provider
  • Go to TIKE Immunization Clinics [August Schedule] [September Schedule]
  • Visit a school-based health center after school starts
  • At any high school, drop off vaccine consents and phone number with the school nurse. Vaccination will then be arranged at school.

Did you know?

  • Immunizations are designed to protect your child from serious diseases.
  • Now is the time to make sure your children are ready for school with all of the required immunizations. Call your primary health care provider, school or the Baltimore City Health Department (410-396-4454) to be sure your child is up to date.
  • Immunizations, like any medicine, can cause side effects. Most are mild "local" reactions to pain, redness or swelling at the site of the injection or a low-grade fever. Remember, a decision not to immunize also carries risk.
  • All daycare centers, preschools and schools require proof of vaccination, or a special waiver, for children to attend.
  • Your teen may need shots too. Vaccines for pertussis, meningitis and cervical cancer are offered-ask your doctor if they are right for your older child.
  • Your child can get immunized as long as they have a consent signed by you.
