THE H1N1 VACCINE IS NOW AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE!

Seasonal flu typically begins in late December and lasts through April. There is also the possibility of a third wave of H1N1 to come. The Health Department has an ample supply of H1N1 vaccine, and lines at our community clinics have been very short, making now a great time to get vaccinated and protect yourself and your family from the flu.

"When there's not disease in the community, that's the perfect time to build up your protection. If you're trying to be immunized when there's disease all around, you don't have time to build up that protection," explains Dr. Anne Bailowitz, acting Chief Medical Officer.

Any healthy child or adult 6 months of age or older can receive the flu vaccine. Upcoming clinics are listed below.

Clinic dates and times are subject to change. Please check this site frequently.

Maryland recently expanded the distribution of H1N1 flu vaccine to the general population, making it available to healthy adults and seniors. The Baltimore City Health Department announces the following upcoming H1N1 and Seasonal flu vaccine clinics:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 10: H1N1 and Seasonal flu vaccine will be offered at the BCHD Immunization Office, 1800 N. Charles St., Ste 600 (21201) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 11: H1N1 and Seasonal flu vaccine will be offered at Eastern Health District Center, 620 N. Caroline St., from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Feb. 15: H1N1 and Seasonal flu vaccine will be offered at the BCHD Immunization Office, 1800 N. Charles St., Ste 600 (21201) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

WHO SHOULD GET THE H1N1 VACCINE?

Anyone who wants to reduce his or her chance of illness due to influenza can receive the vaccine. However, the Centers for Disease Control has identified five groups at highest risk for complications with H1N1 influenza. The priority groups recommended to receive the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine are:

  • Pregnant women
  • People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
  • Health care and emergency medical service personnel
  • Healthy children 6 months to 24 years of age
  • People ages 25 to 64 years who are at high risk of flu complications because of chronic health disorders or a compromised immune system

For more information about H1N1 influenza, please visit our H1N1 flu Webpage, or call 443-984-4FLU (4358) Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or 3-1-1 after hours. Most primary care physicians, pediatrcians and OB/GYNs are now offering Seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines. To find a retailer administering vaccinations, click on Find a Flu Shot, or consult this interactive map.

If you need a doctor or health insurance, please call 3-1-1, the city service line.

The Baltimore City Health Department is the oldest, continuously operating health department in the United States. It was formed in 1793, when the governor appointed the city's first health officers in response to a yellow fever outbreak in the Fells Point neighborhood along the northwest branch of the Patapsco River. Since that time, BCHD has worked to improve the health and well-being of Baltimore residents in partnership with agencies, health care providers, community organizations, the media, and our funders.
